Paula Miksa DMS, EdS, MHS, PA-C is an associate profession with the DMS program at Lincoln Memorial University. Within the DMS Program she works with Clinical and Educational faculty on curriculum development. Dr. Miksa is involved in many committees within the University, including the Interprofessional Education Committee. Dr. Miksa has worked clinically in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine and Gastroenterology and currently volunteers weekly at her local free clinic. Dr. Miksa has spent the past 10 years working in PA education in varying roles including the Director of Didactic Education, Director of Clinical Education and the Director of Interprofessional Education.

Research and practice wisdom demonstrate that health outcomes require more than simply prescribing the right medication for a disease. A wide variety of patient, family, caregiver, and community factors ranging from medication costs to high risk home situations may hinder desired outcomes and even lead to premature death. A pilot project was developed by health professions faculty from two schools to teach social determinants of health outcomes.
