Anita Airee, PharmD, BCPS was an Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2016-2020 where she was the interim Director of Interprofessional Education in 2018. Prior to this she was an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Pharmacy for 10 years. She has over 10 years experience working as a clinical pharmacist in the ambulatory clinic setting and 6 years working in the hospital setting. She is the author of the concept using social determinants of health outcomes as an interprofessional educational program for her university.

Research and practice wisdom demonstrate that health outcomes require more than simply prescribing the right medication for a disease. A wide variety of patient, family, caregiver, and community factors ranging from medication costs to high risk home situations may hinder desired outcomes and even lead to premature death. A pilot project was developed by health professions faculty from two schools to teach social determinants of health outcomes.
