Dr. Maxwell has been involved in interprofessional education and collaborative practice since the late 1980s, working in this field in the UK, Asia, and the US. She currently serves as Professor and University Director of Interprofessional Education and Collaboration at A T Still University. She is active in interprofessional education and collaborative practice nationally and internationally. Serving on the advisory board of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC), as the American representative to The Global Confederation for Interprofessional Education and Practice: Interprofessional.Global, where she co-leads the policy working group, and as a member of Interprofessional Research.Global. A Distinguished Scholar and Fellow of the National Academies of Practice she served as the inaugural Chair of the National Academy of Practice for Physical Therapy.
