Barbara Richardson serves as the Director of Interprofessional Education & Research at Washington State University’s new Elso_x000D_ n S. Floyd College of Medicine. Her interests include simulation, health care ethics, team-based collaborative care and leadershi_x000D_ p. In addition to a career in healthcare, she has extensive experience serving on nonprofit boards, facilitating leadership training p_x000D_ rograms, and serving as an elected member of the Spokane Public Schools board of directors. She currently collaborates with fac_x000D_ ulty and students across 12 different health professional programs at WSU, University of Washington, and Eastern Washington U_x000D_ niversity to create and implement interprofessional learning opportunities.

Background: An urgent need exists to improve care for patients who seek opioids for chronic pain relief. Targeting education towards diverse interprofessional health care teams is one approach to ensure all team members communicate effectively and understand evidence-based options for patients at risk for opioid use disorder.
