Emma Brito is a second-year dental hygiene student at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. She was born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma. She speaks fluent spanish and enjoys speaking spanish to her patients. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Biology and Public Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma. She has over ten years of experience working in a public health dental clinic setting. She worked for Mobile Smiles Oklahoma for seven years as Mobile Smiles Programs Coordinator. She also worked for four years at Delta Dental of Oklahoma as the Clinic Coordinator for their School Based Sealant Program. During her time at the College of Dentistry, she has held various leadership positions including Class President, Dental Hygiene Co-Chair of Kids Day, and Dental Hygiene Chair of Unity Clinic. When she is not at school, she loves to give back to her community by volunteering as a dental assistant at various free to low cost dental clinics. Emma believes volunteering for services in the dental community with little to no resources helps us as dental professionals come together to make a unified stand of the importance of oral health.
Presenting at the Nexus Summit:
Using the example of the Unity Clinic at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, this seminar will introduce participants to methods for student engagement in designing and implementing student-led clinical practice for interprofessional clinical learning. The Unity Clinic aims to provide meaningful, interprofessional, clinical experience with real-world applications. The project began in Spring 2017 with the ultimate vision of an interdisciplinary, mobile, student-led clinic.
