Jeremy Buchanan serves as Clinical Exam Center and Interprofessional Education Manager at Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is responsible for developing and facilitating activities in partnership with programs at LMU as well as with other colleges and organizations. Jeremy is an accomplished field social worker with experience ranging from program development to direct client support. As a Child Protective Services Investigator, Home Health and Hospice Social Worker, Bereavement Coordinator, and discharge planning team Social Worker for a small rural hospital he has gained a uniquely diverse client centered perspective.

Research and practice wisdom demonstrate that health outcomes require more than simply prescribing the right medication for a disease. A wide variety of patient, family, caregiver, and community factors ranging from medication costs to high risk home situations may hinder desired outcomes and even lead to premature death. A pilot project was developed by health professions faculty from two schools to teach social determinants of health outcomes. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine’s 3rd Opioid Education Symposium, focusing on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), was converted to an online format including a pre-event interprofessional networking activity for students. The ultimate goal of the symposium was to provide a vehicle for students and community members to explore multiple perspectives on the impact of ACEs on the opioid crisis.
