Lindsey Yates is a general dentist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. She also serves as the Assistant Director for the CU Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education. Prior to moving to Colorado, Dr. Yates practiced in Chicago and directed the dental department within a large multi-specialty not-for-profit health center, and served as an attending in the Department of Dentistry at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Background
The University of Colorado-Anschutz’s Interprofessional Education (IPE) Program emphasizes teamwork and collaboration and its critical role in safe and effective patient care. Building on these concepts, School of Dental Medicine (SDM) faculty recognized a curriculum gap regarding safe patient management for individuals who experience significant difficulty with mobility, specifically transfers. Background
Building on a previous IPE workshop where nurse practitioner (NP) students learned oral examination techniques from dental medicine (DM) students, faculty identified an opportunity to scaffold in a new learning activity in the Family NP/Adult Gerontology NP curriculum by incorporating a case study for the interprofessional groups of students to work through. These IPE activities address several nursing education competencies and dental education accreditation standards.
