Mary Knab, DPT, PhD is Associate Provost for Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPE) and Associate Professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions (IHP). Dr. Knab’s academic career includes PT and Interprofessional education leadership. Over the past decade her portfolio has grown around leading the development of IHP’s IPE efforts under the IMPACT Practice® umbrella. Aiming to develop an exemplary interprofessional learning environment and faculty excellence in IPE, leading to IHP graduates who are leaders in collaborative health care delivery and interprofessional practice, Dr. Knab’s scholarship includes models for IPE, program assessment, and use of narrative for learning and assessment.

The IMPACT Practice Center (IPC), a pro bono clinic with five uniprofessional centers providing student clinical experiences, operates with a collaborative goal of integrating interprofessional education in an evolving collaborative practice environment. Student peer facilitation is an invaluable active learning approach in interprofessional education that positively influences student engagement and learning, as well as enhances communication and teamwork skills among future health care providers. Evidence shows that student facilitators are more attuned to the needs and experiences of their peers and that when students make personal connections to support each other they are more receptive to learning.
