Michael Negrete, PharmD is an Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs at Samuel Merritt University. In this role he leads the development, implementation and assessment of the university-wide Interprofessional Education (IPE) program, which includes live and virtual trainings that include simulation- and problem-based learning. In addition Dr. Negrete currently oversees and coaches the leaders of SMU's Podiatric Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant programs, in addition to the university's Basic Science department, Motion Analysis Research Center, Community Engagement Center, and Library.

Samuel Merritt University has been a national hub for the Camden Coalition Student Hotspotting program since 2015. During thattime, while student interest is high in participating in the Hotspotting program, volunteer recruitment that represents interprofessionalteams has been difficult to obtain. In 2018, a internal grant was obtained to pilot implementation into one course in the school ofnursing as part of the course IPE assignments.
