Dr. Sharla King is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Program Director for the Master of Education in Health Sciences Education program at the University of Alberta. Dr. King serves as the Director of the Health Sciences Education and Research Commons (HSERC). HSERC, a shared educational resource across all health science faculties at the UAlberta, provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of interprofessional education and services for simulation-based education (single discipline and interprofessional). Dr. King has worked in the area of interprofessional education and research for over 17 years.

Much attention has focused on the development of standardized instruments to assess competencies for collaborative practice in interprofessional education (IPE). However, standardized scales provide limited meaningful feedback to enhance student interprofessional learning.
