Sonal Batra, MD, MST is a practicing physician and assistant professor in the George Washington University's (GW) Department of Emergency Medicine. Her primary areas of interest are health professions education, health equity, and social mission. She serves as associate residency director for GW’s emergency medicine residency program and as a researcher in the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity. Dr. Batra previously served as a founding board member of the Beyond Flexner Alliance, an organization committed to expanding the role of social mission in health professions education. She earned an MST from Pace University, an MD from Northwestern University, and completed her emergency medicine residency training at GW.

The Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity at the George Washington University conducted a formal investigation of accreditation standards of eight accrediting bodies for schools in dentistry, medicine, undergraduate and graduate nursing, physician assistant studies, and pharmacy to assess the extent and scope of social mission content in written accreditation documents.
