Supriya Sen, OTD, MS, OTR/L, is an assistant professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University. Supriya has 33 years of clinical experience and 20 years in teaching. Her professional and scholarly interests include community based occupational therapy practice, work rehabilitation, ergonomics and human factors, cultural competence, interprofessional education and practice, and global health.

Background: Interprofessional education (IPE) is recommended by the IOM and mandated by most accreditors to promote competencies that will enable health professional learners to become effective health care team members. In addition to required IPE activities, students may have opportunities for electives, including global health trips that provide direct medical care and healthcare education to underserved, rural populations outside the US, where teamwork may differ from the US healthcare system.
