After completing his Pharm.D. at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, Dr. Egelund enrolled in the Ph.D. program at the University of Florida. Dr. Egelund completed his graduate studies in the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research under the mentorship of Dr. Charles Peloquin, director of the Infectious Disease Pharmacokinetics Laboratory (IDPL) in Gainesville. Currently Dr. Egelund is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida where he teaches in multiple areas of the curriculum including interprofessional education with a focus on simulation. Dr. Egelund also works part-time at Walgreens and volunteers at HIV clinics when time permits.

The opioid epidemic has brought to light the many challenges health care professionals face to properly assess and manage opioid misuse. Although many professionals feel adequately equipped to respond to an opioid overdose, some feel less equipped to help the patient manage addiction.
