Dr. Mark Fitzgerald is the Associate Dean for Community-Based Collaborative Care and Education (CBCE) at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry (UMSOD). He is responsible for a community-based externship program providing 4th-year dental students with 8 to 12 weeks of dental practice experience in 18 community-based clinics serving underserved populations across the state of Michigan. He also serves as the lead IPE faculty at the UMSOD, is a member of the Executive Committee of the U- M Center for IPE and serves as co-chair of the U-M campus-wide IPE Curriculum Workgroup.

The impact of introductory experiences on student attitudes about IPE has been demonstrated in a variety of institutional settings and health science professions. The health science schools at the University of Michigan (U-M) have devoted considerable effort towards developing interprofessional education (IPE) offerings administered through the U-M Center for IPE to enable our student learners to learn about, from, and with each other so they are better prepared to achieve the quadruple aims in healthcare.
